David P. Langford
CEO of Langford International, Inc
From kindergarten classrooms to corporate boardrooms, David Langford helps people solve problems and achieve their goals using a systems-based approach.
David started his career in the classroom after earning an undergraduate degree from Montana State University-Billings. His first permanent assignment was teaching music alongside his wife, Keri, who is also an educator, in a small town in Western Montana. After teaching in rural Alaska for a few years, he accepted a position in Sitka, Alaska, where he taught music, computer technology, and earned a master’s degree in administration.
Early in his career, David discovered the work of W. Edwards Deming, founder of the System of Profound Knowledge. Deming’s trailblazing work in the corporate sector inspired David to tailor and apply Deming’s theories to education. While working at the state-run boarding school, David implemented a systems-based quality improvement program. It proved to be transformational. In a few years, the school went from failing to being featured in the PBS documentary Quality … or Else for its students’ success. David is the only educator to receive the Deming Medal for Excellence.
The experience redirected David’s career. He launched Langford International and Langford Learning and began leading seminars and teaching other educators internationally the theories he’d developed and how to implement them for immediate and lasting results. He went on to author several books, develop an online course, and host a podcast. During his career, David also held adjunct faculty positions at Montana State University-Billings, University of Alaska, and Central Washington University, teaching the fundamentals of systems-based quality improvement in education. Recently, David has returned to education leadership and is currently a school district superintendent in Alaska. David and Keri have five children.
